Vattenfall has collaborated with actor Samuel L. JacksonVattenfall is looking at ways in which power generation facilities can have uses beyond electricity production. One initiative, called WIN@sea, involves Vattenfall and partners studying how offshore wind farms might also be used for food production and environmental monitoring.

At the Danish offshore wind farm Vesterhav Syd, seaweed is being grown on lines between the turbines. While the turbines generate electricity, the seaweed helps improve the marine environment by absorbing carbon dioxide and excess nutrients. Once harvested, the seaweed can be processed for different purposes, including food.

To highlight this work, Vattenfall has collaborated with actor Samuel L. Jackson, who has a background in marine biology and an interest in marine life. His involvement aims to encourage a broader understanding of how offshore wind farms can contribute to the environment.

A limited batch of snacks made from this seaweed has been produced for selected recipients. These Wind Farmed Seaweed Snacks are intended as an example of what such projects can achieve rather than as a product for sale.
