EU court ruling clears way for stalled wind projects in Galicia

The European Court of Justice has ruled that the procedures used in Galicia for permitting wind farms comply with European Union law. This removes the legal uncertainty that had halted nearly 100 wind projects in the region.
DEM-AWE project tests airborne wind and storage system in Ireland and Netherlands

The DEM-AWE project has demonstrated the potential of airborne wind energy combined with storage through the Kite-Battery Energy Storage System (K-BESS), developed by Dutch company Kitepower. Field trials were carried out over 18 months, starting at RWE’s airborne wind test site in Bangor Erris, Ireland, where the system’s reliability and control systems were tested in challenging conditions. The integrated battery unit, developed with Greener Power Solutions, was validated during these trials.
Acciona highlights renewables growth and strong Nordex order intake

This decision follows the DOI announcement with measures that will affect the planning and approval of wind energy projects on federal lands and offshore.
Renewables set to overtake coal as global electricity demand rises

Global electricity demand is forecast to grow by 3.3% in 2025 and 3.7% in 2026, according to the International Energy Agency. This growth rate is more than double that of overall energy demand. Renewables are expected to overtake coal as the largest source of electricity generation by 2025 or 2026, depending on weather and fuel prices.
Fugro expects second half 2025 recovery after weak offshore wind market

Fugro’s results for the first half of 2025 were affected by geopolitical and economic uncertainties. The first quarter’s uncertainty continued into the second quarter, leading to project delays and reduced work scopes, particularly in the offshore wind sector. This resulted in lower revenue and earnings before interest and tax. Free cash flow was affected by lower earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, combined with front-loaded capital expenditure.
Partrac supports RWE at Sofia offshore wind farm

Partrac, part of Venterra Group, has been supporting RWE on the Sofia offshore wind farm for the past two years. Since May 2023 Partrac has provided a network of metocean measurement and demarcation buoys, including Cardinal Mark and Special Mark buoys to mark the site boundary.
Nexans partners with Crowley Wind Services on Jones Act compliant cable lay barge

Nexans has formed a partnership with Crowley Wind Services to develop and operate a Jones Act compliant cable lay barge. The 300‑foot U.S.-flagged barge was built in Louisiana and tested in the Gulf of Mexico to Nexans’ specifications. It will be operated by Crowley with American mariners.
Scottish Government grants consent for SSE Berwick Bank offshore wind farm

The Scottish Government has granted consent for the 4.1 GW Berwick Bank offshore wind farm, located about 38 kilometres east of the Scottish Borders coastline. Scottish ministers have issued a Section 36 consent for the main offshore wind farm array in the outer Firth of Forth off the East Lothian coast.
Canada and Nova Scotia designate four offshore wind areas

The governments of Canada and Nova Scotia have designated four offshore areas for future offshore wind development: French Bank, Middle Bank, Sable Island Bank off mainland Nova Scotia and Sydney Bight off Cape Breton. These areas will form the basis of the province’s first offshore wind projects, with the aim of licensing up to 5 GW of capacity by 2030.
