Transmission system operator Amprion is developing offshore grid connection systems to link wind farms in the North Sea to the German transmission grid. For the BalWin1 and BalWin2 converter platforms, Amprion has appointed Tüv Süd as owner's engineer to oversee construction.
The contract covers production monitoring at several international sites. This includes the manufacture of large components at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, the support structure at Aker Solution in Verdal, Norway, platform assembly at Dragados Offshore in Cadiz, Spain, and the offshore commissioning process. Production for BalWin1 and BalWin2 began in June 2025, with work starting at Dragados Offshore in Cadiz on 10 June and at the Meyer shipyard in Papenburg on 12 June.
