Ocean Winds, a joint venture between EDP Renewables and Engie, has installed the first floating wind turbine for the Éoliennes Flottantes du Golfe du Lion (EFGL) pilot project off the coast of Occitanie, France.
The turbine, assembled at Port-La Nouvelle, was towed 16 kilometres offshore and anchored at its final site. This is the first of three 10 MW turbines planned for installation during the summer. Each turbine stands 186 metres at blade tip and is mounted on a floating foundation secured by nine mooring lines. The pilot wind farm is scheduled for completion by the end of August and is being developed in partnership with Banque des Territoires.
