RWE and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have signed a Strategic Framework Agreement to advance RWE’s digital transformation and support Amazon’s renewable energy goals. The agreement builds on an existing relationship between the companies. RWE and Amazon have previously signed seven power purchase agreements (PPAs) in the USA, with a combined capacity of 1.1 GW.
Under the new framework, AWS will provide cloud services to support RWE’s digital development, including artificial intelligence and data analytics. AWS has already worked with RWE’s Supply & Trading division to migrate applications, including its Energy Trading and Risk Management platform, to the AWS cloud.
The collaboration will continue to support innovation in energy trading, asset optimisation and AI applications. It will also strengthen ties with RWE’s AI Research Laboratory in Seattle, focusing on the development of forecasting models using high-performance computing and cloud-based resources.
