Seven European transmission system operators (TSOs) have formed the TSO Innovation Alliance to support innovation and coordinate efforts around the energy transition. The founding members are Terna (Italy), RTE (France), Swissgrid (Switzerland), Elia Group (Belgium and Germany), TenneT (Netherlands), Red Eléctrica (Spain), and Amprion (Germany).
The Alliance aims to align strategic technology priorities, share resources, and promote open innovation. Each year, it will launch a programme to identify and test promising technologies through joint proof-of-concepts with European startups.
The first focus area is “Weather and Grid Resilience”, targeting the operational risks posed by extreme weather. Startups will be invited to propose tools for pooling meteorological data and developing probabilistic models for real-time analysis and predictive maintenance across national borders.
