Amprion has begun preparatory work for laying subsea cables as part of the DolWin4 offshore grid connection project. Over the next two weeks, the company is conducting a pre-lay run north of Norderney, ahead of full cable installation later this summer. The work is being carried out by Prysmian Powerlink.
This phase involves preparing the seabed along the planned cable route, including loosening the sediment and removing potential obstructions such as lost fishing gear. The aim is to ensure smooth and safe cable laying. If problematic areas are identified, the route can be adjusted locally before installation.
In this area, cables will be installed using a jetting tool mounted on a barge, which anchors itself offshore and extends towards the “Oase” beach. Temporary access restrictions are expected in early July in this beach area. The anchoring zone will be cordoned off for safety, and Amprion will provide local information during the works.
Following the pre-lay phase, actual cable installation is scheduled to begin in early August, starting north of Hilgenriedersiel. The barge will then move north towards the intertidal zone near Norderney, where the cables will be laid in September. Once pulled into previously installed protective ducts beneath the island, connection work will continue at a landfall site near the lighthouse.
